Mumbai, which was known as Bombay, is called as the dream city of India. Mumbai lies in the western coastline of India. The city was renamed in the year 1995. History showcases the events of how the British had an influence over Bombay in the past. It has a natural harbor, which was later designed and developed by the British; the city is now flourishing in trade.
According to recent study, Mumbai is one of the busiest places in India with its harbor handling more trade than any other one in the country. The revenue for India adds from this source as well, wherein the sea way is of great advantage to make business. This city is thronged by many tourists as it is considered as a city with life and zeal. Currently it is one of the well-developed and well-planned cities across the globe. It holds a population of around 14 million with diverse group of people.
It was a combination of Islands earlier and later they were merged into a single city, and it is now called as Mumbai. Some of the islands, which were merged, are Old Women’s Island, Mazagoan, Worli, Parel, Mahim and Colaba. These small islands were individually ruled by small kingdoms in the past by the Mauryas, Konkanas, and Rasrakutas and so on. Later they were ruled by the Portuguese and then finally the British before getting Independence.
After conquering Bombay, the British took the responsibility to reconstruct it with technology by amalgamating all the pieces of Islands. Now what we see is the highly developed city of Bombay, called as Mumbai. Adding a feather to the cap, it was modernized with industrialization, good roadways and railways, high-tech infrastructure and so on. Because of modernization, Indians had a great advantage in making use of the place for its freedom activities.
